The Raanana Municipality joins the effort to implement the Libraries Law and announces that its municipal library will become a public library.

Commencing 1.2.09, books may be borrowed from the library, free of charge, by Raanana residents.  Raanana residents are invited to borrow reading and reference books, free of charge, by presenting a library card, which will be issued for a one time registration fee of NIS 15, and they will be asked for a security check (undated)  for the sum of NIS 100 for every book borrowed.

Each reader is eligible to take out two reading books (for a one month period) or reference books (for 7 days) and in the event that the books have not been reserved by other readers, the reader may extend this period by phone or email.  Late returns will be charged NIS 0.50 for each late day.  Non-residents are welcome to continue to use the library services, in exchange for a registration fee and a yearly subscription to the library.

The library, as part of the Raanana philosophy as a “City That Reads”, has decided to encourage its readers, young and old, to read and enjoy the wide variety of services and activities offered by the library each month.

The library offers a wide variety of books for adults, children and youth; literature in various languages; reference and information books; interactive children’s books, audio-books, multimedia discs, a computerized catalogue, daily newspapers and magazines; reference rooms, theater performances; story hours, and workshops for children and adults.  In addition, the library organized activities to encourage reading among the younger generation; writing workshops; and literature and poetry meetings for all age groups.

Mayor Nahum Hofree:  “Raanana is a ‘City That Reads’; which invests significant resources to expose its residents to the world of reading, with its inherent and special magical qualities.  We will continue to work to build a cultural environment for each resident through the variety of services and activities offered by the library throughout the year.  I wish all Raanana residents, children and adults alike, continued pleasurable reading experiences.”

Miriam Prince, Director of the Library Department at the Raanana Municipality:  “The Raanana Municipal Library serves as a cultural and social center in the community and fills a centeral role in the leisure activities of the city’s residents.  I invite the residents to visit the municipal library and enjoy the special excitement of reading a good book.”
