As part of its efforts as a green city to protect the environment, the Raanana Municipality, in cooperation with Israel Railways, will operate a free shuttle from the Herzliya train station to the Kiryat Etgarim Industrial Zone in Raanana and returning through the center of Raanana. The shuttle is offered free to Raanana residents, upon presenting a Residents’ Card and for employees at Raanana’s Hi-tech Companies, upon presenting their employee card.
The Raanana Municipality invests significant resources in environmental protection and maintaining quality of life and encourages its residents to adopt a lifestyle which is considerate of the environment. The free shuttle service is being operated under the name - “We Travel Together and Save”, in order to encourage green transportation in the city, to reduce air pollution, and to work toward financial efficiency, in light of the global and national economic crisis which dictates reducing the consumption of fuels and other costs. The initiative is supported by the Today and Tomorrow Transportation Organization which promotes the subject of “getting to work in a green fashion”.
The shuttle service will operate, starting 1.2.09, in the morning and afternoon on a set route: The Herzliya Train Station, Yosef Nevo, Jabotinsky, Brigada Hayehudit, Sderot Yerushalayim, Weizman, Atidim, Dafna, Zarhin, Tidhar, and return – for employees of the hi-tech companies. Raanana residents can use the shuttle in the morning from Ahuza Street in the center of the city directly to the train station and during the afternoon form the train station directly to Ahuza Street.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: The Raanana Municipality is committed to environmental protection and takes many steps to reduce air pollution. In addition to the new free shuttle, the municipality encourages the reduction of the use of vehicles in the city, offers free parking to hybrid car owners who are not Raanana residents, and has prepared bicycle and walking paths on the city’s streets. Especially during this time of economic crisis, we will continue to become more efficient and to provide the residents with a variety of high level services, while at the same time, reducing costs.”
