: This past Saturday night, hundreds of spectators packed the Aviv Sports Center to watch the 2010 Gymnastrada Event - a spectacular showcase the best of the gymnastics and acrobatics and dance reams. The Gymnastrada was held in Raanana for the 6th consecutive year!
The Raanana Municipality hosted the Russian team, artistic gymnastics world champion, for the 2nd year in a row. Also performing were Raanana’s General Gymnastics team, and teams from Hod Hasharon, Hadera, Modiin-Macabim-Reut and Mazkeret Batya.
Raanana’s General Gymnastic is Raanana’s official gymnastics team comprised of 30 gymnasts ages 11 to 24. The team practices regularly at the Kiryat Sharet Sports Center and boasts 6 professional trainers. Its members appear regularly at municipal showcase performances and international festivals and over the years, the team has had impressive achievements bringing the city and its residents great pride and honor: Israel’s acrobatic champions in 2009, a number of the team’s gymnasts are part of the Israel’s national team. All proceeds of the event are earmarked for the Keren Roi Foundation which provides assistance to Raanana’s needy students.
The event, organized by the Municipal Sports Authority, was attended by Raanana Mayor Nahum Hofree; City Manager Avi Laufer; municipal officials and employees; the President of the Russian Gymnastics and Acrobatics, Victor Pastov; Culture and sports Ministry’s Sports Administration Director, Dr. Uri Shefer; members of the Hassan Family and other guests.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “Raanana is proud to host the gymnastics teams, as part of its efforts to encourage and promote athletic activity in the community. In addition to the spirit of sportsmanship of this event, this spectacular event also makes an important community contribution, with all proceeds of the ticket sales earmarked for the continued activity of the Keren Roi Foundation for the Raanana’s children.”
