:Next week, a chapter of the “Crembo Wings” youth movement will open in Raanana at the Hayovel Elementary School. The official opening of the branch will be held on Thursday, 18.2.10.
The opening of the Raanana branch is part of Raanana’s accessible city activity, which promotes programs that integrate the special needs population into the community, and helps ensure that public institutions and buildings are accessible.
Crembo Wings is the first and only youth movement of its kind in Israel, established for children and teens with special needs. The movement was established in 2002 and currently has 8 branches across Israel. The movement is dedicated to a proactive integration of special needs children and youth into Israeli society.
Opening a branch in Raanana is the result of cooperation between the Education, Social Services and Culture Leisure and Youth Divisions and the Crembo Wings Youth Movement. As part of this process, young members and families were contacted who were interested in participating in the movement’s activity.
The Raanana branch includes 25 kids, ages 6 to 21, residents of Raanana, of which 8 are confined to wheelchairs. A team of 40 teenage counselors will run the branch. In total, the branch is expected to work with 70 members. All the counselors are Raanana residents and high school students. They have undergone training by the youth movement representatives on the subject of leadership, accepting those who are different, tools for coping with special needs children and they visited the children’s homes prior to the opening of the Raanana branch.
The branch will operate at the Hayovel Elementary School gym on Thursdays, from 17:00 to 19:00 and various events will be planned, such as parties, holiday celebrations, counselor training, etc.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “I warmly congratulate you on the opening of the Raanana branch which will act as a home for the disabled population and offer children and youth interactive social activity and an opportunity to take part in the community and society.”
