The new municipal program “Raanana Writing” will train outstanding students in literary writing, and will be run by author and journalist, Ito Aviram

The Raanana Municipality has initiated a new program to promote reading and writing among its younger generation.  The ‘Raanana Writing’ program is designed for students who excel in the field of writing, in grades 5-9, and will train the younger generation in the field of literary writing.

The program will include two workshops for 5th-6th graders and 7th-9th graders to be held in the gifted program at Bartov Elementary School, once a week in the afternoon until the end of the school year.

The program will be run by author and journalist, Ito Aviram, a Raanana resident, editor of the Pilon magazine and website.  Ito Aviram will deal with a variety of fields, including:  the development of writing skills, poetry and scripts, literary genres and he will host other authors.

Each workshop will include twenty students recommended by the school staff.  The orientation meeting and first screening is open to other students interested in submitting their candidacy.

The orientation will be held on Monday, 11.1.2010, at  16:00 in the gifted department at Bartov School.
Note that participation in the program is for a fee!

As part of the extensive educational activity to encourage reading and writing among the younger generation, this month, a new program – “Young Reporters” will begin its 2nd year, and is designed for 4th grade students.  The program is run by Ziv Elementary School and will be attended by 22 students who will be trained to serve as young reporters at their schools.  The students will meet with journalists and spokespersons and will be taught tools for journalistic writing.  The participants will also publish a newspaper as a final project.
