: This month, the municipality will mark the ‘Educator Day’ 2009-2010, with a series of events and activities designed to empower the position of the teacher in the municipal education system. The Educator Day is the first of its kind initiated by the Education Ministry and the theme this year will be the educational approach of Yanosh Korchak, in order to raise public awareness regarding the role of the educator, his significance in the child’s world and his roles in the current era.
Yanosh Korchak was a physician, author and best known as a Jewish educator. He started his work in 1904 in the field of education. He established and ran orphanages, wrote essays, trained educators and created an educational approach that is based on the teacher finding his own method, while keeping in constant contact with the educational endeavor, the personal experience, his values and educational mission.
Over 2,000 educators in Raanana’s schools and preschools will take part in this unique day to be held on Wednesday, 20.1.10 and it will include a variety of activities in cooperation with the parents committees and student councils.
The Educator’s Day will open with a variety of activities at all the city’s schools and preschools, which were initiated by the parents’ committees: A flower will be presented to each teacher at the entrance to the school and a breakfast will be served to the teachers during thir morning break. Later in the day, enrichment activities will be held for all the educational staff, including lectures on image building, sports, and nutrition.
Starting this Sunday, and throughout the week, a box will be stationed at each school with the sign: “Just a Good Word or Two and Nothing More”, and students and parents will be invited to write their personal words of appreciation to the teachers.
The day will be concluded with two events that will take place in the afternoon and evening at Eshkol Hapais for the school and preschool teams, and attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree, the education division director, Education Ministry inspectors and other guests.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “The Educator’s Day is our opportunity to thank the thousands of teachers in Raanana who are responsible for training and guiding our city’s children, so that they will become adults who integrate into Israeli society. We will continue to work to empower the position of the teacher and to promote his status and create a safe, protected and respectful educational environment at our schools.”
