: Seven of Raanana’s elementary schools are participating this year in the “Path of Light” program successfully run in Raanana for the 3rd consecutive year, and initiated in conjunction with the elementary and middle school department. The schools that are participating in the program are: Meged, Bilu, Hayovel, Hadar, Ziv, Shaked and the Atzmai independent school.
The Path of Light Program run by the electric company uses the development of Ya’adim Ltd., and it promotes the subject of electrical safety among children and in the community at large. As part of the program, representatives of the electric company visited the schools, and ran informational and demonstration meetings on the subjects of dangers involved in electricity use, major safety rules when using electricity and reducing consumption.
This year, the program also promotes environmental issues, in the spirit of Raanana’s green and sustainable city activity. Representatives of the regional department of environmental protection will provide the students with the skills for wise use of resources and electricity consumption.
As part of the program, a group of 30 students was selected from the various schools to serve as Path of Light children, trained to identify electrical problems and to report them to the electric company. They will also run informational activities in the classes, check that the school’s electrical appliances are switched off when not in use and instill the importance of economical use of electricity in their fellow classmates.
During the past three years, approximately one hundred students have been trained as ‘Path of Light’ children. These students serve as agents of social change in the community on the subject of the safe use of electricity. They train younger children on how to safely use electricity and pass along the message of safety and of the importance of reducing the use of electricity at home, school and in the community.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “Raanana is engaged in teaching environmental values at a young age and this program is very important in promoting cautious and safe behavior when using electricity as well as the economical use of this vital resource. This is the essence of educating children to assume responsibility and become involved.”
