: Mayor Nahum Hofree: “This disturbing phenomenon of alcohol consumption obligates us all to deal with the problem both through legislation and by educating the younger generation. The new law will help to reduce the young people’s access to alcohol”
During its latest meeting, the Raanana Municipality ratified a bill to restrict the hours that alcohol may be sold at the city’s places of business. Consequently, the municipality will tighten the supervision of the sale of alcohol and reduce the youth’s access to alcohol at the different establishments.
According ot the bill, an additional condition will be added to the business license of kiosks that prohibits them to sell and/or serve intoxicating beverages to any person of any age between the hours of 21:00 – 08:00 the next morning.
Another condition of the business license for cafés, restaurants, pubs and clubs also prohibits the sale and/or serving of intoxicating beverages to any person of any age between 21:00 to 08:00 the next morning, which will not be imbibed at the place it is being served. Additionally, all these businesses must post a prominent sign at the shop noting this new restriction.
These new conditions will be put into effect starting the 1st of March, 2010!
The Raanana Municipality, in cooperation with the Al Sam Associationk invests a great deal of resources in the educational and social activities on the subject of encouraging awareness of the dangers involved in using dangerous and addictive substances. A variety of programs are implemented from the 6th grade, in addition to the activities run by the Supplementary Education frameworks and the youth movements. A major portion of the activity is dedicated to parents and includes workshops, parlor meetings and parents tours of the youth’s entertainment hang-outs. The Raanana Municipality also plans to renew the Parents’ Patrol of these entertainment venues, with the help of volunteer parents.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “This disturbing phenomenon of alcohol consumption obligates us all to deal with the problem both through legislation and education of the younger generation. The new law will help to reduce the young people’s access to alcohol, alongside our extensive activity in the formal and informal education systems.”
