The last city council meeting was dedicated to Raanana’s first council leader, on the 50th anniversary of his death

The last meeting of the Raanana city council, held last week, was dedicated to the memory of its first council head, Baruch Ostrovsky, of blessed memory, who passed away 50 years ago.

His family members, friends of the family and Raanana notables participated in the official city council meeting in which a special film was screened on the biography of Ostrovsky.  Mayor Nahum Hofree presented a copy of the special film as a gift to the family.

Baruch Ostrovsky was a talented and accomplished man who helped establish the city of Raanana and served as its council head for 28 years.  His public work was characterized by his great modesty and strong desire to work on behalf of and contribute to the public he served.  Among his contributions was the planning Raanana’s first high school, which is named after him.

Mayor Nahum Hofree spoke at the council meeting in memory of Ostrovsky:  “Ostrovsky wisely set the most important fundamentals into place that would help Raanana turn into the city that we are proud of and enjoy living in:  a thriving, quality, intimate city with a village atmosphere.

“Fifty years after his death, Baruch Ostrovsky’s legacy and impact on Raanana are still apparent and the younger generation is being taught according to his philosophy.  This is a philosophy that promotes excellence, values, volunteer activity, develops and encourages leadership and contribution to the community, and all with sensitivity and respect to others, whoever they may be.”
