The Raanana Municipality celebrated the end of this year’s activity at the city’s senior citizens clubs at a moving event, in which 200 members of the Amigdal, Rasco, Kiryat Sharett, Moadon Olim, Cafe Europa and Hashachar senior citizens’ clubs, all took part.

The event was held at Eshkol Hapayis and attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree, City Councilwoman, Bella Tzur (welfare portfolio); the director of Social Services, senior citizens, volunteers, representatives of the volunteer organizations and other guests.   Students from the Yachdav School played their instruments and Efrochei Raanana Neurim and Pirchei Yerushalayim performed at the event.

The division for treatment of the senior citizen population offers diverse enrichment activities throughout the year, including enrichment courses, lectures, trips, study programs and holiday events.  Among the lecture subjects are personal growth, proper nutrition, road safety, etc.

Café Europa, designed especially for Raanana’s Holocaust survivors, deals with topics related to the Holocaust.  The club is run in conjunction with the Culture, Youth and Leisure Division and the Lions Dror Club and offers a rich leisure time program.  In addition, there is a project to document the lives of the survivors, in conjunction with Emunah, Yad Zahava and Edut Theater, and also involves students of the Yonatan Middle School, in an effort to put on a play based on their ilfe story.  This project is being carried out in conjunction with the HaMishkan Center and the Association for the Elderly.

Mayor Nahum Hofree:  “The senior and elderly population has been allocated a place of honor in Raanana and we invest a great deal of thought, effort and resources in an effort to honor, support and assist our seniors to live a full and satisfying life.”
