Last week, the Raanana Municipality opened its Hebrew book celebrations with the “On the Wings of Imagination” Festival, which will be held during the entire month of June.

At the opening evening, there were activity stations for children of all ages based on famous children’s books, and the city’s authors signed their books.  The event was attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree and Deputy Mayor Ronit Weintraub, director of the Culture, Youth and Leisure Division.

In the reading champion contest for 2009-2010, held by the Municipal Library, 7th grader, Harar Yosef Rafael was selected as the reading championship.  He read 318 books since the beginning of the year until May.  Runner up was 5th grader, Peleg Yeara, who read 310 books.  They were presented reading champion certificates by Mayor Nahum Hofree, Deputy Mayor Ronit Weintraub and director of the Municipal Library, Miriam Printz.

A City Council that Reads
Members of the Raanana city council celebrated the Hebrew book celebrations at an official city council meeting.  The meeting began with a reading of literary and poetry selections, which were chosen by city council members.  The mayor read a story by H. N. Bialik, and selections by Amos Oz, Natan Alterman, Hanania Reichman and Leah Goldberg were also read.
