The Raanana Municipality is currently launching a new service to its residents, in cooperation with Car2go Ltd. – i.e. car sharing services, by the hour, 24/7, every day of the week.  The new service is part of the extensive municipal activity in the field of sustainability and is designed to reduce the use of private vehicles, and consequently, the emission of greenhouse gases.  This will make an important contribution to a healthier, greener and cleaner environment.

The Raanana pilot will include 8 of the company’s cars available to the city’s residents.  Residents must register with the company and join its services as paid members; after which they may rent a car to travel anywhere in the city or in the country, at any time.

Various studies have indicated that the use of the new service significantly reduces the frequency of travel using private cars, and contributes to the reduction in environmental pollution – even leading many users to sell their second family car and use alternative modes of transportation such as public transit, bicycles and walking.

As part of this project in Raanana, eight parking spots have been allotted for the car-sharing cars and are located at: 190 Ahuza Street (corner Hagdud Haivri), 13 Hasharon Street, 1 Tel Hai Street and 9 Brenner Street.  Company cars will be stationed at all these locations and, after using the car, it must be returned to the same spot.

The car-sharing project has worked successfully for over 30 years in the U.S. and France, and has already begun operation in Tel Aviv and Givatayim.  Raanana is the first city in the Sharon to support and promote this project as part of its efforts to protect the environment.
