: An exhibition by artist, Sabina Saad, entitled “Yellow Badge – Dialogue with a Symbol, opened at Raanana’s Yad LaBanim Municipal Gallery.
Sabina Saad, a daughter of Holocaust survivors, runs an ongoing dialogue with the yellow badge, which develops into dozens of visual images that express the significance in relation to its color, shape and its verbal meaning. She lends interpretation and expression to the badge, which provides spectators with a feeling of identification with the pain of those who wore it and who were destined for death, and those who wore it but who succeeded in surviving this inferno.
The power of the yellow badge in all of its expressions, overwhelms us with the feeling that this is what provided us with the symbol of the Star of David for our country’s flag which offers a national Zionistic meaning. The symbol which accompanied the Jews to the gas champers also helped to represent the astonishment of a Jewish state as a symbol of life. Instead of the symbol’s expression of disgrace, it know expresses our greatness as a people.
The official opening will be on Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday, 12.4.10 at 12:00 and attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree and Deputy Mayor Ronit Weintraub, director of the Culture, Youth and Leisure Division.
Curator: Orna Fichman.
Municipal Gallery Hours: Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 to 19:00, Fridays form 9:00 to 12:30 and Saturdays from 11:00 to 13:00.
