The award was presented to the middle school for its work, over the past three years, to promote Jewish, Zionist and civic education using a variety of curriculums
The Hasharon Middle School will receive the award for excellence in Jewish, Zionist and Civic Education from the Avi Chai Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.  The Hasharon Middle School joined the prestigious Ma’arag program three years ago, and since that time, it has extensively promoted excellence, investing a great deal of resources, as part of the school’s curriculum.  The award ceremony will be held this coming May.

In addition to Hasharon Middle School, Raanana’s Meged and Yachdav Elementary Schools will also be presented this award.

The Ma’arag program sets as its goal to introduce students to fields of Judaism, Zionism and civics, to foster a connection to tradition among all sectors of the Jewish people and to encourage an understanding and appreciation of Jewish heritage, culture and values.
Striving for excellence at Hasharon is part of the school’s philosophy and is based on the school’s vision – Leadership Builds Identity – which includes the entire school community, the students, teachers and parents and is based on values of respect, accepting those who are different, tolerance, social involvement, affiliation and excellence.

In preparation for presenting the award, the Ma’arag Award committee members visited the school and were profoundly impressed with its endeavors in this field  The visit was joined by Mayor Nahum Hofree, representatives of the Education Ministry and other guests.  During the visit, the students, teachers and parents presented the variety of programs implemented at the school in the spirit of the school vision and they received high praise for their work.

Among the programs presented were many volunteer programs such as “Appreciate the Value of Good Deeds”, in which 150 seventh graders and their parents volunteered in over 30 different volunteer activities, as part of the Shorashim Project.  Then the members of the committee were shown a physical education lesson that integrates children with special needs from Raanana’s AGAM School.  This program is in operation for eight years and is based on tolerance and accepting those who are different.  In addition, programs focusing on sustainability and environmental protection and programs for new immigrants were also presented.

Mayor Nahum Hofree:  “Raanana’s education system works to create a common denominator that includes love of one’s fellow man, land and state, pluralism and tolerance, belonging and giving, responsibility and excellence.  I am proud of the school’s achievements related to this vision.”

School Principal, Raya Levi:  “We believe that the shaping of the student’s identity is our central educational responsibility.  We will continue to teach values of excellence in order to build an excellent society for our students’ future.”
