: The Raanana Municipality is renewing its Parent Security Patrols, in cooperation with the Kfar Saba Police, the Raanana Police Station, the Civil Guard and the Al Sam Association. The Parents’ Patrol, which will operate as a division of the Civil Guard, will patrol youth entertainment spots, primarily on weekends, at night, in order to create a direct face-to-face connection with the city’s youth.
Recently, Mayor Nahum Hofree sent a letter to parents of middle and high school students, explaining the initiative and encouraging them to join and volunteer in this project.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “In order to ensure the future, well-being and first and foremost, the education of our children, I believe that it is imperative to involve the parents personally, alongside the municipal and professional staff in both the education and law enforcement systems.”
In light of the serious incidents of dangerous substance abuse among teens and young adults in Israeli society and the rise in violence and road accidents, the importance and vital nature of the Parents’ Patrol has increased as an essential tool for working with youth and young people, in order to teach values, to create a face-to-face discussion, to build trust with responsible and authoritative adult figures, and naturally, to enforce the law.
To date, a number of parents have joined this initiative and at the end of October, a training meeting is scheduled for the parents’ group by the Civil Guard. Subsequently, enrichment meetings are scheduled for the parents to be given by representatives of Al Sam, on various topics, including creating a personal encounter with youth, simulations, the dangers of substance abuse, etc.
Raanana resident, Nir Crystal, active in the establishment of the Patrol: “The Parents’ Patrol is our opportunity, as parents, to become much more involved in the lives of our children. Not everything can be handled by our education at home, social influences have significant implications and this is our real opportunity to make a change.”
